Meghan Gomen began her harp studies at the age of ten after studying piano for a few years. She studied with various teachers including Naoko Nakamura, Laurie Meister, Marian Shaffer and Paula Page. From the time she started her private studies, she was performing in orchestras and bands and attending summer music camps and festivals. As a high school student, she was selected as a Woodlands Symphony young artist and at the age of seventeen, she performed the first movement of Handel’s Concerto in Bb Major in Carnegie Hall.

Gomen received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Southern Methodist University. There she studied harp with Susan Dederich-Pejovich. At SMU, Gomen performed regularly with the Meadows Symphony, Wind Ensemble and Opera Orchestra. She also accompanied the choirs on occasion and performed on many other student recitals. One of the highlights of her undergraduate career was studying abroad for one semester in Paris, France. After graduation, Gomen taught orchestra in Plano, TX at Clark High School and Plano East Senior High School and taught harp privately. She also performed regularly with the New Life Symphony, Park Cities Baptist Church Orchestra and the Dallas Metropolitan Wind Symphony.

Gomen received her Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from James Madison University where she studied conducting with Dr. Robert McCashin and harp with Bridgett Stuckey. At JMU, she had the privilege of performing with and conducting the Symphony, conducting the Chamber Orchestra, and singing with the Chorale. She also performed in numerous recitals as a harpist and conductor, and was involved in the world premiere performance of several new works. Some of her favorite performances include accompanying baritone Kevin McMillan and performing in a backup orchestra with the band Kansas.

In Virginia, Gomen performed with the Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra, Charlottesville Symphony, Richmond Philharmonic, and Waynesboro Symphony. She was an instructor and conductor with the American Youth Harp Ensemble, the Academy of Music and their Summer Institute programs in Richmond, Virginia, giving private lessons, and teaching classes in harp and conducting. She also performed with the AYHE in Lincoln Center and conducted the premiere of the harp ensemble version of Deborah Henson-Conant’s Baroque Flamenco.

Gomen currently teaches at Deer Park High School, works with the Music and Worship Arts Academy, a homeschool orchestra, and maintains a private lesson studio. She still performs extensively for various events, including weddings, store openings, art exhibitions and church services, and with various local groups, including the Houston Heights Orchestra, the Houston Sinfonietta and the Pasadena Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ms. Gomen is available for performance engagements, harp and judging clinics, and private instruction.
